Q - Hi, I am looking for an 'ESL superlative quiz,' what websites offer the best quizzes?
Before I start to talk about where to find the best resources for ESL superlative quizzes, I will explain what a superlative is. The McGraw-Hill Handbook of English, Fourth Canadian Edition explains superlatives by stating "Most adjective and adverbs change their forms to show a greater or small degree of the quality they express. This change of form is called comparison. The three degrees of comparison are positive, comparative and superlative. An example of a positive would be happy which is an adjective. The comparative or net degree of comparison for happy would be happier. The last degree of comparison which is the superlative would be happiest. Please see below for the example mentioned in the first paragraph and another example of the superlative.
- Positive Happy (adjective)
- Comparative Happier
- Superlative Happiest
- Positive Soon (adverb)
- Comparative Sooner
- Superlative Soonest
Once again thank you to McGraw-Hill for these examples which can also be found in the latest McGraw-Hill Handbook of English.
